On July 1st, we launched the next exciting phase of Paper Nations, Writing for All, and to kick off this new programme we announced three £5,000 Beyond the Book commissions for writers to work on a digital writing project.
Through Writing for All, we want to see writing become an art for everyone and for the writing and media industries to be much more representative of the country as a whole.
Writing for All will offer writers opportunities to collaborate, including paid commissions, writing meet-ups and dedicated writing spaces or writing courses, publication opportunities and networking events – we want to empower new talent and nurture new pieces of writing.
Writing for All is supported by directors Kate Pullinger, Aminatta Forna, and Naomi Alderman and associate authors, David Almond, Nathan Filer, Kit De Waal, and Fay Weldon. The programme will run throughout 2019-21.
The first season of Writing for All is the Call for Action. Download the booklet now to find out more about our goals and how you can take part.
We’re kicking off Writing for All with BEYOND THE BOOK – three £5000 commissions for writers working in a digital medium.
Writers with links to the upper South West region (Somerset, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire) are invited to apply for a commission to develop a digital writing piece or project for the smartphone. Three writers will be awarded up to £5,000 each. The selection panel is headed by Kate Pullinger. Winners will be announced in October.

A huge thank you to the launch attendees for their support last night. The discussions were engaging, insightful, and will inform how we make Writing for All.
